Oral Surgery   Q & A

Invisalign® is a popular system to straighten the teeth without the discomfort or appearance of the metal braces. Instead of relying on the metal bands, or ceramic plates and wires that are attached to the tooth surfaces, the Invisalign® system uses a series of customized, clear removable trays to gently move the teeth into their proper positions over time. Typically, the treatment takes approximately about 12 to 18 months for the proper alignment of the teeth to be achieved, but in some cases, more time may be needed.
Dr. Dann will work with you to develop an individualized treatment plan using Invisalign® to meet your specific goals. Invisalign® works by using plastic trays called aligners that are custom made for you. Impressions of your teeth are taken and then used to render 3D models. The final version of the plastic aligners will be used based on this 3D model, allowing for a customized fit for your teeth and mouth. the specific amount of time that the aligners will need to be worn varies from patient to patient, but most Invisalign® patients wear the aligners for about a year. Progress is typically monitored on a biweekly basis, and the aligners are usually replaced and refitted as necessary.
With Invisalign®, the trays are smooth and clear appearing almost invisible when being worn. They're also very comfortable, with no sharp edges or wires. The Invisalign® trays can also be removed, making it much easier to keep teeth and gums clean during treatment and also eliminating food restrictions. For the best results, the aligners should only be removed when they are being changed, during brushing and flossing, or when certain foods are eaten. Because there are no wires to be continually readjusted, patients typically require fewer office visits - usually, just one every six weeks or so - and treatment with Invisalign® is usually much faster compared to traditional orthodontic treatments.
